Creating a New Cluster

Setting up a cluster is a multi-step process. The wizard helps you with the initial steps: defining the cluster and adding MiVoice Business systems to it. If you are also configuring a MiCollab system, the wizard automatically adds the MiCollab network element to the cluster and enables System Data Synchronization (SDS) sharing between MiCollab and the MiVoice Business elements. Sharing starts when you apply your configuration. Any subsequent changes to user and services data, made on either MiVoice Business or MiCollab are automatically synchronized.

You can also use the wizard to set up service Resiliency for your devices and applications. (Resiliency is optional; you don't need it to create a cluster.)

The remaining steps—provisioning IP trunks and ARS routes between the clustered systems—are completed using the System Administration Tool after you have configured the systems with the wizard.

NOTE: Provisioning a cluster, especially for service resiliency, requires careful planning. The wizard helps with the programming but some preparation is needed beforehand to ensure a successful deployment. For more information, see Planning the Cluster.

Creating a Cluster without Resiliency

To create a cluster with no resiliency:

  1. Enter the required information on the MiVoice Business Cluster page.

For additional help on the first three fields, see Network Elements and Cluster Elements for the remaining fields.

  1. Click Next to continue.

  2. Complete the remaining pages and apply the configuration.

  3. Add additional systems to the cluster by following the steps for Joining an Existing Cluster.

Creating a Cluster with Resiliency

IMPORTANT: The first member of the cluster is designated the primary system for MiVoice Business service Resiliency. If you are configuring a pair of resilient systems, you MUST provision the secondary system (Host B) first WITH NO users or applications. Once the secondary is provisioned, you run the wizard again on the primary system (Host A) in 'Join Cluster' mode, create the users and applications making sure to specify Host B as the secondary where applicable.

To create a cluster with resiliency, provision the secondary system using the Configuration Wizard as follows:

  1. Select Create a new configuration.
    Click Next.

  2. Complete the System Parameters.
Clear the MiCollab check box (the server, if required, will be configured on the primary system).
    Click Next.

  3. Complete the License and System Options.
Click Next until you reach the Applications page.

  4. Select MiVoice Business Cluster, then Create new cluster for resilient users and services.
    Click Next.

  5. On the MiVoice Business Create Cluster page,

  1. Configuration is complete. Continue to the end of the wizard to apply it.

You must apply the configuration before adding additional systems to the cluster.

  1. Proceed to 'Joining an Existing Cluster' and configure the primary system plus the users and applications.

Joining an Existing Cluster

The first member of the cluster is designated the primary system for MiVoice Business service Resiliency. The next member becomes the secondary system—or the system that takes over if the primary fails. Each additional system you add to the cluster is paired with the secondary of your choosing. After joining a cluster you then add users and applications, designating a secondary for each depending on whether you want to make them resilient. At configuration time, the wizard will start data sharing between the primary and secondary and finish with a sync to complete the resiliency provisioning process.

To join an existing cluster (or provision the primary system in a resilient pair):

  1. Select Create a new configuration.
    Click Next.

  2. Enter the required information on each page as you would when configuring a standalone system.

  3. On the Applications page, select MiVoice Business Cluster, then Join existing cluster.
    Click Next.

  4. On the MiVoice Business Join Cluster page,

  1. Continue with adding users and applications to the new cluster element.

  2. On the Configure MiVoice Business page, provide the login credentials for both the Master and new cluster element.

  3. Wait while the wizard configures the new system and adds it to the cluster. (If provisioning resiliency, allow additional time for the data sharing and sync.)

NOTE: If the cluster you are joining is in an Application Group, you will need to re-sync the GARID with the AMC after you apply the configuration and initiate SDS sharing. To re-sync, navigate to the Application Group Licensing form in the Sys Admin Tool on the Designated License Manager, and then click Change followed by Save.

Adding Users (Resilient or Non-resilient) and Applications to an Existing Cluster

The following procedure applies only to cluster elements provisioned using the Configuration Wizard. Using the wizard on elements provisioned by other means is not recommended.

  1. On the System Parameters page, specify the FQDN or IP Address of the cluster element you are configuring.

  2. Clear the Configure MiVoice Business System Data check box to skip licensing, trunking, and other items.

  3. On the Applications page, select MiVoice Business Cluster and Modify existing cluster element.

  4. Select all the applications that are applicable to this element.

  5. On the MiVoice Business Cluster Definition page, add any elements for service resiliency to the list or import a list of elements acquired by exporting data from the Network Elements form of a cluster member.

  6. In the Application Resources and Options pages, specify whether the applications are resilient (by selecting a Secondary MiVoice Business system).
Skip this step if there are no resilient applications.

  1. On the User Information page, select the Secondary MiVoice Business system for each resilient user. Leave the field blank for non-resilient users.

  2. On the Service Information page, configure the services for each user.

  1. On the Configure MiVoice Business page, provide the login credentials for the first system (i.e., the existing cluster element).

  2. Wait while the wizard configures the resilient devices and applications.
